R - Rest

water"And on the seventh day God ended his work which He had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all His work which he had done." (Genesis 2:2)

In our fast paced world this seems to be a luxury. We are stressed and do not find any time to rest. And of course this takes its toll in our health. About 40% of all adults suffer from the consequences of lack of sleep. This leads to lack of concentration, sicknesses, colds and also various accidents. God knew that. That's why he gave us a chance for a good nights rest through creating night and day (Genesis 1:3-5) and with that a time to rest as a pure necessity for all his created beings including the human body to recharge. In order to be able to enjoy a good nights rest it is important that we do not do or see exiting things, right before we go to sleep. A time of reflection, reading something inspiring as the Word of our creator and Prayer.

All these things help us to leave our burdens at a better place. Another point to consider is that our stomach should work at night anymore either. So we should not eat anything any more 4 hours before we go to sleep. Having regular hours of sleep – 8 hours per night – will give us energy for tomorrow. We will be more relaxed, able to accomplish more, it will strengthen our immune system and we will less sensitive against pain.

In addition to giving a 24-hour cycle through creation of the sun, he gave the seasons through the moon, and the stars. The weekly cycle, He created by setting a memorable day after HE finished His 6 day workweek, claiming this seventh day as a day of rest for every created being that desires to enjoy it. Just like HE visited them "in the garden in the cool of the day" (Genesis 3:8), morning and evening, to talk with them and to share His wisdom, so He set the seventh day apart to do the same. He even "blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made." (Genesis 2:3). As blessings can be counted on, it is interesting to see, that studies show that there is a distinctive edge on longevity in people who stick to keeping this day as a day of rest.

Just as it is beneficial for a good nights rest to have finished the work of digestion before going to sleep, a day of fasting is also beneficial for the body. The blessing of this can be experienced right in improvement of clearness and sharpness of the mind. To have an enjoyable communion with our creator on day of rest he gave us, our diet that day should be especially simple and as natural as possible, or it could at times even be chosen as a day of fasting instead of feasting.

T - Trust

temperance"O taste and see that the Lord is good: Blessed is the man who trusts in him." (Psalm 34:8)

David, the psalmist, encourages us to experience a special blessing here. He encourages us to believe; to believe that whatever God has provided for us will taste good and have good results. Daniel and his three friends, as captives in Babylon put this to practice. They believed that the king's diet with meat and vine was not healthy. So they put their trust in God on a test and asked the steward who was in charge of them to test it out if the rich diet of the king was healthier than a simple plant based diet ("pulse" or "vegetables" with the base of the word coming from: "to produce seed, yield seed" Strong's -"Bean or seed used for food" A King James Dictionary) plus water to drink. After the testing period of ten days the steward was convinced, as "their features appeared better and fatter in flesh than all the young men who ate the portion of the king's delicacies." (Daniel 1:15) This certainly does not speak for the rich food on the king's table. So they received permission to continue on their diet for the next three years with an incredible result when they were tested by the king: "As for these four young men, God gave them knowledge and skill in all literature and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams. ... And in all matters of wisdom and understanding about which the king examined them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers who were in all his realm." (Daniel 1:17+20) Encouraging results. So it is worth a try to change our diet! When God finished his creative act he considered it to be "very good". This included the diet He gave. Why not trust Him in that!

T - Truth

airJesus said to the people, which believed in him: “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:31+32)

Isn't that a wonderful promise, to be free? Are you free? Free to make the choices that God puts before you? Or do you see your freedom restricted by the things that He places before you? "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge" (Hosea 4:6). The consequences of our choices are ours to deal with. Most people accept the things they are being taught by their authorities. This could be relatives, friends, teachers, or the media, science or other sources they cherish. The real question is: Are they the gold standard? Luke, the physician and author of Luke and Acts encourages us to receive the word with all readiness of mind, and to search "the scriptures daily, whether those things were so" (Acts 17:11). The word of God has been this standard in the past; it still is and will be at the end His standard He will go by. If He as our creator uses it, it will be good for us to use it, too. We are encouraged to "serve him in sincerity and truth" and to put away the gods which your fathers served"… "And if it seems evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; … but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." (Joshua 24:14+15)

To show a practical example of it, I would like to share something that I experienced when changing to the "Raw to Eden Diet":

Sexual love was given in Eden with marriage as a wonderful way to share intimacy. Like everything on this planet it has become distorted and is oftentimes replaced by passion. However studies show, that the original way is the healthiest way to share intimacy.

As I remember how passion controlled my life, I am so glad to see, that God offers a solution to this, too. How can I say this? It is the experience of many people that the closer they came to the original diet - a fruit based low fat diet - they gain control of their passions. Let me explain this: When you eat a fruit based low fat diet you will experience many physical, emotional and spiritual changes. Even before puberty I experienced that sexual passions started to dictate my life. However, as I changed to the "Raw to Eden Diet", the urge of viewing beautiful beings as sexual objects declined and disappeared. I attributed it to the process of aging. On the other hand it is interesting to note that my potency had improved and my wife and I enjoy a caring, natural and intimate relationship as may be never before. So something did not seem to match.

After reading reports of other people who describe similar observations, I realize that this is not related to aging, but to my dietary change. If I would have known this during my youth, how many stumbling stones I could have avoided. Due to passions, most, if not all men view sex as a necessity and not an expression of love. After eliminating hormone filled animal products, foods with a high fat content, including raw foods with a high fat content, many people experience a change in their sexual thinking and in their bodily urges. It is nice to enjoy this freedom. I wish it for every person and I assume that Adam and Eve, as well as their descendants that followed this diet, enjoyed this freedom, too.

L - Love

love "God is love" (1 John 4:16).

It was out of HIS infinite love that "God created man in his own image" (Genesis 1:26) with the ability to make choices of his own. Like all the beings He created before, man has a free will, as God did not want to be worshiped by robots. God placed this new creation on planet earth, the center of the universe. He wanted to enlarge the heavenly family after a rebellion had arisen in heaven (Isaiah 14: 12-14), and heaven had lost "the third part of the stars of heaven (Rev. 12:4), the angles. These newly created beings were superior to all previously created beings. They were not only able to see, hear, smell, feel, taste and choose, as all created beings are. Man was created "male and female" with the ability to reproduce. This ability was new to the universe. In Genesis 1:28 we read how God blessed this new institution of marriage and encourages man to be "fruitful and multiply, and to replenish the earth, and subdue it" as well as to have dominion over all the other created beings (not over each other – as we are so often tempted).

Being created in His image, God shared the principles of His love right from the beginning with man. The Ten Commandments given to man on Mt. Sinai are a reflection of His love. Jesus, our creator summarizes them in Matthew 22: 37- 40 as follows: "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." And "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." So with God's creative act, he instituted HIS law as a sign of HIS love, as the guiding principle. Living our lives according to God's principles and integrating the "Raw to Eden Diet", we can expect as a result a prolongation of life ("that thy days may be prolonged" Deuteronomy 6: 1+2). So it is not only worthwhile to love God, but it is also worthwhile to love our neighbor as much as our selves, as longevity will be the result.

So if we want to develop love- the first of the fruits of the spirit (Galatians 5:22+23) - we will not succeed without control of appetite. For most people this will mean also a change in their dietary habits.
