A New Start to Life

A - Ambiance

ambiance"And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed." (Genesis 2:8)

It certainly was a magnificent place that GOD chose for Adam and Eve. In contrast to that we know about Jesus, the second Adam, being born in a stable near Bethlehem. His parents fled with him to Egypt, and later moved with him to a little hidden mountain village, obscure and despised Nazareth. Here he spent his childhood and youth with his mother as the first teacher. Through her he became acquainted with his Father in heaven through scripture, as well as through the works of nature. In that remote region he spent nearly thirty years mostly as a simple, but excellent carpenter, doing all the time, his Father's work. His cousin, John the Baptist, also grew up very remote, being a hermit, before he started to preach.

It certainly w In the Old Testament we have the example of David, a simple shepherd boy, being anointed to become the king over God's people and Elisha being called from the plow to be God's prophet. They all had a simple upbringing.

It certainly w Contrary to the simplicity of growing up in a garden as God designed it for man originally, cities are a human invention. They are sophisticated places for learning and working. God, however, did not intend for his people to live in crowded places like that as they are a hotbed of sin and sicknesses. Interestingly it is Cain, the one who killed his brother Abel, who build the first city. 2. (Genesis 4:17) Lot, Abraham's nephew, who chose to live in the city of Sodom, was instructed: "whomever you have in the city - take them out of this place! For we will destroy this place, because the outcry against them has grown great before the face of the LORD, and the LORD has sent us to destroy it." (Genesis 19:12+13)

God does not change. A worse judgment than that in Sodom was predicted on some cities by Jesus in 2. (Luke 10:12) . One fulfillment of this prophecy can be seen in the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD. Yes, even the "Holy City" was not spared. Here too, Jesus had given a warning message beforehand, calling His people to come out of the city. In Matthew 24: 14+15 it says: "Therefore when you see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place," (whoever reads, let him understand) "then let those who are in Judaea flee to the mountains". As Jesus's statement refers also to our time, it applies to us, too. In Revelation 17:18 it says talking about “that great city, which reigns over the kings of the earth”, and in Revelation 18:4 HE pleads with the people to separate themselves from this system: “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.”

So the flames that consumed Sodom and Gomorrah send their warning light down to our time. We need to consider what kind of changes we should make in our lives. Do we live in a place of refuge in this fast paced time we live in? Have we gone back to a simple lifestyle, with a healthy amount of independence of the system and prepared our Eden home?

God wanted man, who was created in His image to retain this image by being in close contact with HIM. Country living will bring us more closely into harmony with God’s original plan, we will benefit from it physically, mentally and spiritually and our character will be transformed. So the ambiance, that we choose for living will have a significant impact on our wellbeing.

N - Nutrition

nutrition"And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat." (Genesis 1:29)

Whole, ripe, fresh, raw plant foods, the way our Creator gave them, are by far the most healthful, as they still contain all the valuable components intact, including their purified water. Organic and over the year a great variety of fruits and fruity vegetables, like tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, bell peppers, squash, and few others, however not including the root vegetables, as they grow under the ground and do not contain seeds, as well as green leafy vegetables, as "the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations" (Revelation 22:2), this was what our creator originally chose for man to eat in paradise.

The more we depend on fresh fruits in our diet, the better health we will experience! Since not everybody has the privilege to live the tropical environment, where great varieties of fruits and green leafy vegetables abound all year long, there must be another solution for those as well. The more north you go, the less fresh, ripe organic fruits you can find. So, do we have to start to cook there? No, there is another solution available. In the northern hemisphere you can find other valuable herbs, which should be used for food as well. We usually blend them with one or two kinds of fruits, which make them truly enjoyable. Or we juice them with some root vegetables like carrots and red beets or even with some fruits like apples and/or citrus fruits to enjoy these chlorophyll- and nutrients-rich juices. During the colder season we include at times some spouted seeds in our menu. The process of germination deletes toxic preservatives and multiplies the nutrients. This is what we believe God gave us to live and thrive on.

E - Exercise

exercise"And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the Garden of Eden to tend and to keep it." (Genesis 2:15)

"To tend and to keep it" was our work according to God's original plan. Gardening! Most of us can't even imagine it any more. Is that exercise? The National Institute of Health even recommends it 3-5 times per week for 30-45min in order to loose weight. It is definitely unique: Calming, creative, at times even challenging and exhausting. It includes activities as stretching, weightlifting, aerobics, especially if you have animals to take care of, too. After man was expelled from Eden man was instructed to sweat during his workout (Genesis 3:19) . This sweating sounds like a curse, however, as sweating helps to eliminate toxins, and is also an indicator of a good cardiovascular activity, it actually is a blessing, as we benefit from it with our health.

So whatever you choose to do: Try to find something that encourages you to start sweating. There are many other options: Bicycling, swimming, walking, running, pushing a stroller, shoveling snow, wheeling self in a wheelchair, jumping rope, … So whatever you choose, combine it with deep breathing. It is stimulating and encourages the elimination of toxins. If you have not been active for a while, you might want to start with an 20 to 30 minute exercise program consisting of stretching, breathing exercises and aerobics, preferably in the morning.

A good exercise for the lower abdomen and lower back is to lie on your back, lift up both of your legs slowly to a vertical position and hold it for a few seconds. Next, slowly lower them until your heels almost touch the floor, than slowly rise back up to a vertical position again. Do this exercise slowly and increase the repetitions daily until you can do 30 in a row.

The best exercise for the abdominal muscles is the half sit-up crunch. Lie flat on your back with knees bent up and your hands clasped behind head, now come up and bring your elbows towards your bend knees and hold for one minute. Slowly lower your back to the floor. Repeat this exercise daily until you are able to do 20 with ease.

We love walking/running with the dogs, hiking, biking, swimming, canoeing, and mountain climbing in addition to progressive weight training and organic gardening, with the latter taking most of our time. Find out what suits you and put in into practice! Our bodies are created for it.
