Forward to Eden

Learn from our roots!

We went already back to Eden to learn more about the origin of our diet and our physical wellbeing. However, there is more to life than eating, drinking and moving. We are created to live life!

choicesWe are all familiar with the thought, that the choices we make have an influence on our wellbeing. Wellness is influenced by our choice of food, drink, the activities we participate in, as well as the surrounding we choose to be in. There are situations in life that we did not choose ourselves, and we don't care about them. However, we have a choice about how we react to them. Do we accept to live with it, or do we try to make changes. When we see the need for a change, do we try to get rid of the symptoms, or do we try to understand the cause and make changes at the root of the problem.

"Health, life, and happiness are the result of obedience to physical laws governing our bodies." Ellen G. White (MS 151,1901)

Where do these laws come from?

In the first chapter of the book of Genesis we read how God first created everything and put everything in its appointed place. So HE set the rules the whole universe is going by. As HE laid down the foundation of the macrocosm, so HE also set the rules by which HE created the microcosm. Our Creator put man into the center of it, the Garden of Eden, with man created in HIS image. Man is a free being, with the choice to live by these laws or to leave these laws behind. It has been said, however:

You are free to choose, but you are not free from the consequence of your choice...

Exploring the Garden of Eden!

Why?

bookGOD created this planet with the Garden of Eden to solve a problem HE had. As you are most likely searching for answers to problems in your life, too, the Garden of Eden might have answers for you that you did not consider before.

GOD created every being in his universe with the ability to make choices and the potential to live eternally. As God did not want to be worshiped by robots, freedom of choice was to Him an important issue. However, freedom of choice made the universe that He created vulnerable.

In Isaiah 14:12-14 we read of an interesting event: "How you are fallen from heaven, o Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart: 'I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the most High.' "

Lucifer caused rebellion in heaven and was expelled with his angels. This war in heaven is also described in Revelation 12:7+8. It was not a small problem, as Revelation 12:4 notes "a third part of the stars of heaven" that were cast with the dragon to the earth. So heaven lost one third of its population to planet earth.

So what does this have to do with the Garden of Eden?

created imageAdam and Eve were created as the solution for God's problem with a desire to repopulate heaven with beings that were created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). As Satan however succeeded to tempt them and gained control over them and this planet, our Creator took the risk upon himself to come to planet earth as a human being in order to show, that it is possible for a human being not to give in to temptation. With his death on the cross He paid the price for all the sins of everyone who is willing to believe in the atoning power of His blood (John 3:16). As our Savior desires for all of His creation to live a life free from the power of sin, He wants to help us not to fall into temptation as He was able to abstain from sin. The temptation of appetite was the temptation for Adam and Eve, and it was the first temptation for Jesus Christ in the desert after 40 days of fasting. It is also a temptation of every person on this globe who wants to be saved. In order for us to gain control of our appetite and passions in this day and age, when foods are enriched with excitotoxins and other stimulants and our environment being polluted in every imaginable and unimaginable way, we need to search for ways to escape their consequences. Only this will help us to have a sound mind to make wise decisions for our life here, as well as our life to come.

Ellen G. White writes about this in the book "Desire of ages" on page 122: "His (Jesus) example declares that our only hope of eternal life is through bringing the appetites and passions into subjection to the will of God."
